Andrea JurjevicPoet and translator Andrea Jurjević was born in Rijeka, Croatia, and arrived to the U.S. in her early 20s. She earned her BA in Journalism and MFA in Creative Writing, Poetry from Georgia State University where she studied with David Bottoms. Her first book of poetry, Small Crimes (Anhinga Press, 2017), was selected winner of the 2015 Philip Levine Prize. C.G. Hanzlicek, the acclaimed poet and contest judge, has said, “Jurjević’s language crackles with energy, and she lingers lovingly over the intimate details of a life that is loved with the eyes wide open.” David Bottoms has said Jurjević has “an extraordinary gift for language” while Maurice Manning called Small Crimes a “painful book of serious, artistic verse.”

Jurjević’s poems and translations have appeared in EPOCH, TriQuarterly, Best New Poets, the Missouri Review, The Journal, Gulf Coast, The Bobmay Gin, Sugar House Review, and many other literary journals and anthologies. She is a recipient of a Robinson Jeffers Tor Prize, a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and a Hambidge Fellowship. She works as a Lecturer in English at Georgia State University.

Mamasafari is her first book of translations.
