Lavender Ink and Di\u00e1logos<\/h3>\n

Lavender Ink was founded in 1995 in New Orleans by Bill Lavender, who is still the Director and Editor in Chief. The Press is a sole-proprietorship funded solely by revenues from book sales and some small grants and funding initiatives for individual books. Prior to 2012 the press published only poetry, but is now publishing fiction and nonfiction also. Di\u00e1logos is the official business name (registered as a sole proprietorship in Louisiana); Lavender Ink and Di\u00e1logos are the two imprints published by Di\u00e1logos. Most Lavender Ink titles are American poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. The Di\u00e1logos imprint is devoted to literatures which have cross-cultural significance, primarily but not exclusively literature in translation.<\/p>\n

Our mission is change the world through poetry, as most of the fiction we publish could rightly be called poetic. We believe that great literature both chronicles the age and influences the future, and we also believe that it is inherently valuable to read and study the literatures of nations, languages and cultures other than one\u2019s own, as well as forward-looking and socially engaged work from one\u2019s own home town. Thus we publish poets from New Orleans but also California and New York, and we have published poetry and fiction in translation from more than twenty nations in Latin America, Europe, and Africa. We hope that the eclectic nature of our collection inspires dialogue, both literal and textual, across borders of all kinds.<\/p>\n

Associate Editor Sean F. Munro works on acquisitions, editorial development, and international publishing partnerships. His work at the press includes identifying and developing new manuscripts, coordinating editorial and translation processes, assisting with rights negotiations and contracts with international publishers, and overseeing aspects of book design, production, and marketing strategy.<\/p>\n

Sales and Distribution<\/h3>\n

Individual buyers should simply shop this web site; direct sales represent our best margin and thus are a great help to us. We also deal directly with bookstores and libraries via this site; if you represent a retailer or a library, or are a faculty member considering assigning a book, please email orders@lavenderink.org<\/a> and we will send you a coupon code which will give you your trade discount.<\/p>\n

Formerly distributed by Small Press Distribution, we were affected by SPD\u2019s dissolution in early 2024, which lost us hundreds of books and thousands of dollars. We are now distributed to the trade by\u00a0Asterism<\/a> and, for certain titles at least, Ingram.<\/p>\n

Submissions<\/h3>\n

We accept submissions during open submission periods. The current period closes February 1, 2026, and reopen June 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

We are interested in any work of literary merit in any genre, including anthologies or collections, during our open reading periods. Submitters are encouraged, in fact admonished, to study our list before submitting.<\/p>\n
