<\/a>“A\u00a0dream is a poem disguised as a story,” says Rodger Kamenetz. “I had a practice of writing down my dreams\u00a0 every night but these were not yet poems. One dawn I found the secret:\u00a0instead of writing down my dream, I could write a poem instead.\u00a0 A poem in the wake of the dream.\u00a0That morning\u00a0Yonder<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>was born.” What better form, then, to record the dream than the prose poem?\u00a0This collection of “proses” from the author of\u00a0The History of Last Night\u2019s Dream,\u00a0<\/em>The Jew in the Lotus<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0To Die Next To You\u00a0<\/em>brims with respect for the genre, with homages to forebears from Baudelaire to Max Jacob, Russel Edson to Kafka, along with Rodger’s own unique reinvigorations of the form.<\/p>\n
