Suzanne Burns

Suzanne Burns is a writer of fiction and poetry whose work often blends the domestic with the surreal, tracing the emotional and bodily landscapes of desire, aging, grief and transformation. Her books include Look at All the Colors Hidden There (Galileo Press), Now It Seems That I Am Not Here at All (Tailwinds Press), Boys (University of Hell Press), The Veneration of Monsters (Dzanc Books), Sweet and Vicious (Black Scat Books), Love Songs for Las Vegas (Future Cycle Press), The Portland Poems (Finishing Line Press) and Misfits and Other Heroes (Dzanc Books), 

Her work has appeared in journals including The Christian Science Monitor, Free State Review, Diagram, Room Magazine, Failbetter, and The Sunday Oregonian. Her books have been reviewed by Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus Reviews (starred review; Top 100 Book of the Year), Ms. Magazine (starred review), Booklist, Powells.com (Book of the Day), Newpages, and More Magazine. She has received numerous awards, including first place in DIAGRAM’s Innovative Fiction Prize, Writer’s Digest’s Genre Fiction Award, the Inkwell Poetry Prize, and multiple finalist and longlist honors for the Calvino Award, New Millennium Writing Awards and Bedford Poetry Competition.

Suzanne has studied craft with Ken Kesey, Primus St. John, and Barrett Warner, and has given readings throughout the Pacific Northwest, including appearances at Wordstock and Powell’s City of Books in Portland, Oregon.
